Cave of Earth by Alucus Cave of Earth by Alucus
Okay so here's my entry for the
second round of the mapping contest.
This time hosted by the winner of the
first round :icontruecynder:
If your interested in entering please
head over there. The theme of his
contest is an elemental cave. I was
going to make a massive cave for
earth air fire and water, but in truth
I got lazy, so its just the earth one.
Complete with elemental crystal aka
the artefact that turned this old dank
murky cave into a thriving forest.. :p
hope you all like it, cant wait to see
what everyone else enters with.

The usual credits same as on every map I make, me alistair and I think that's it on this one :D

first I like the overall design, for me there is a nice flow from the top left to the bottom right. Overall there are many details to look around. But you cant explore the whole cave? where is the entrance? If its a Cave in my opinion there arent so many tree, espacily no that big. Less is more for this map. You should point the artefact more out - draw more attention to it for the player there should be a rest of ruins when it handmade, make a circle out of pillars or change the groundtexture to something more like a ancient floor looking type. Try to make a path where some team would block the way for an event or use the bushes to "block" players path.
Thanks for the listening
am I to harsh or hard to please or do you think im right like to hear it thx

"Too short for critique"
The trees are higher than the ceiling and their color doesn't match the overly bright grass. Their shadows are nicely down though.

This would make a great minecraft map - Big trees, little trees, soul sand for the dirt, lilly pads in the pond, reeds for the tall grass... It's perfect!
The only real problem is lighting, but that can be fixed with glass blocks + a texture pack

Looks good, but shouldn't the grass slopes have a different amount of shadow than the flat grass?

Not sure why no one else has thought of having an underground forest, it's a good idea. And of course it's not just a good idea but looks cool too.
